Complete after a long walk : with beaming sunshine the golds reflected to strongly so the night was spend considering the piece.
Beautiful

Saturday 26th June
Lovely morning - as usual - Conor is on site early 9am and the rain has stopped. Now there are more visitors and tourists who are amazingly supportive. The sun starts coming out and Gay pride marchers fill the area. Everyone is polite and dressed to kill.
Friday 25th June
Great morning - soild fast work - unsusally to see the variety of tools and techniques. And the intensity and concentration is tight. From the colour choice. Very exact at this point and not tones and tons of paint. Conor seems very aware of what he is trying to achieve.
Alot of movement around the wall on the cherry picker. Physical.
Afternoon rain arrives and its wears everyone down. Cold and effecting of the paint. So we suspend painting.

And it keeps going on and on. Bafta's tonight with EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP leading the nominations for best doc. I'm not sure should it win there enough mis-information in the world
Here a great little promo on the Bristol Show 2 years ago. Very cool, but maybe its time for something new.
But it isn't going to go away that easily. Mr Brainwash is now a huge star. And LIVE NATION seems to working with Steve Lazerides (Banksy's former Dealer) to create super/mega shows in Miami. Availablity is an amazing thing buth in creating Mega show are we not build false churchs and reverting back to what the old galeery system was. Yes it is something different, but why with live nation. Where is the independent spirit.
And we like everyone else so we also have availablity of several Banksy pieces at the moment so get in touch for more info.

10 Loves of the Year : Part 1
(In no particular order)
Ian Francis
We been in love with Ian Francis work for quiet some time but it was onlyu this year that we got a chance to see one of his shows. "Exodus" at Lazarides last march was a simple show presenting his work without all the bells and whistles that most outsider art shows allow.
Conor Harrington & Chloe Early
I was lucky enough to visit Conor & Chloe's studuios this summer and was touched by their openiness and kindness. Basically these are 2 wonderful people. Very much in love and very proud of the work each of them does. Both have achieved incredible siccess internationally this year and are an inspiration as people and painters. I can also confirm Conor did not pose for the painting by Chloe below although he really wanted too!!!!!
Gorillaz
I love the Plastic Beach record and even though they blew the show at Glastonbury I am still a huge fan. Muse won the festival but really who was gonna take the U2 space.
Here their cover of one of my loves form last year the XXX
DJ Goldy
All year in lot of the blogs that have reviewed the shop, there have been alot of comments about our music policy. The main reason for this is one of our closest friends DJ Goldy. In the days before anyone had very many CDs and it was Djs who played you music you didn't own Goldy djed with Jon and we were drunk alot of the time. Never one to care about cool or good hair he has always just played whats good. You can dj his minthlu mix tapes here Goldy Mix Tapes or you can see him play out ever saturday night in Dame Lane

Chloe Early
Chloe Early open in Washington last week with a stunning exhibitions of painting. I got a chance to visit her studio in Sept and the images stated with me.
Very beautiful works.

Go see some of the work online it's a stunner
http://www.coreyhelfordgallery.com/#/show/current/
Bio
Chloe Early graduated from NCAD Dublin in 2003. She currently lives and works in London. In her paintings Chloe Early creates a fantastical landscape, an urban utopia where strange and wonderful things happen. For this exhibition 'Ladies And Gentleman We Are Spinning In Space', she has referenced a variety of images and contexts; playground, circus and images of vacationing couples from travel magazines combine against an industrial architectural setting to highlight escapism, fantasy and leisure. Using these recognisable and transient architectural spaces and structures emphasises those qualities of escape and imagination in her paintings - a stepping outside the norm of contemporary urban life.
Early uses these images but places them in a different context so the circus is in town but there is no one there, a brightly coloured slide stands in the centre but the playground has become a battle ground for wild animals. In this way they become a symbol of an abandoned childhood, a lost innocence and are replaced by a new reality. Figures and animals inhabit these urban spaces, wolves roam the streets and deer stop to drink beneath looming buildings. There is a sense that this is a post apocalyptic world, but ultimately these are positive paintings, redemption exists, nature is alive, people are not alone. Early shows us a world deconstructed and put back together in an unsettling way, but there is a sense of celebration, stars twinkle, bright lights flash. A dream continues...
A Visual Fest
From the Blog
http://www.weblogtheworld.com/countries/europe-countries/ireland/irish-street-art-a-visual-fest/
Take a look at the cover of A Visual Fest by Rua Meegan & Lauren Teeling which will be released on the 18th of November at the Bernard Shaw.

The guys started taking photos of street art in Ireland a few years ago and developed a huge collections of images and finds. Perhaps only now, with the current political climate that people have started to create street art in a big way. (Banksy & Obey were in countries that the Iraq War was directly involved and so stenciling was more instant)
Here's what New Space's site has to say, an adorable artsy shop in Dublin's city center that I recently discovered that seems to focus on graffiti and pop art, representing artists from countless places including Dublin itself.
"Its easy to make a book about international street art. TRESPASS: A History Of Uncommissioned Public Art by Wooster Collective is a great book but the scene in the US seems desperate to be gentrified and accepted. I feel that book is aimed at pushing street art away from its core of people just doing or making something and into the world of curators. It will allow the work of Jeffrey Deitch previously of Deitch Projects in New York and currently the director of the LA Museum of Contempory Art to promote large scale street art shows. But is that what the world needs. Already guys with spray cans can be found at every music festival and church fair (soon). As soon as a book or gallery show happens street art seems to haved moved and changed.
Ideally I hope the A Visual Fest book will have more in common with Stencil Graffiti by Tristan Manco. One of the first books on stencils that seemed to sow the seeds for so many artists. (I always thank Jenny Fox for giving it to me.) Only time will tell."
The book features works by Asbestos, Canvaz, Conor Harrington. Maser, Will St Leger & Loads more

A Visual Fest : Irish Street Art
Heres a sneak peak of the cover of A Visual Fest by Rua Meegan & Lauren Teeling which comes out on the 28th of October
The guys started taking photos of street art in Ireland a couple of years ago and developed a huge collections of images and finds. When they made the jump to creating a book, I was quiet shocked. It was a brave move. The scene here is still in its infancy. Sometimes, I think its only now, with the current political climate that people have started to create street art. (Banksy & Obey were in countries that the Iraq War was directly involved and so stenciling was more instant)

Apple makes me want to kill myself
I've been a long time fan of apple computers. Its not a way of life but a case of simplicity. There seems to be less up-grades, bogus material hidden on the systems and its a simplier life. It get me from A-B. Nothing else.
But over they last few weeks there has been several confirmed reports of 13 suicides at the makers of Apple products (Ipod/Ipad/Iphone) FOXCONN. Basically while conditions for the 400'000 workers isn't any worse then any other chinese computer plant. Its pretty terrible. The presure to build the machines is so great that many believe taking ones life is better.
How does this fit in with our image of Apple ?
The creatives brand !!! The future !!! Apple is about imagination, design and innovation !!!
Unfortunately this is begining to sit very uncomfortably with me. I don't want an Ipod world. A white not screws world, where everything is "sleek & slick". To be honest I think Apple world heading quickly to Micheal Jackson World in the Scream Video. Dull.

Lost
So for better or worse, richer or poorer, Lost ended till death. but they didn't part.
I was a fan of season 1 but my patience didn't last through season 2. But occasionally I would flick through a show and always liked how well formed the main characters seemed to be. But it was to open ended. It was not until the final season that I re-engaged with the show. And really enjoyed the journey. Once I accepted the island could move through space and time, all the unanswered questions seems silly.
So all I did was enjoy the final season. Sure the end was sweet but mainstream culture has to be. Would it have been better if they all woke up on the plane and crashed into twin towers, with some one shouting "You Fools"!!!!!
At the end of the day the main message of the world seems at the moment seems to be community and the importance of Love in one life. Its easy to feel its Us vs. Them, Public vs. The Banks but that's not gonna lead anywhere. We need to do something special together. Lost seemed to get this and thats how it ended.
One big happy family. Well one big happy dead family.
Here some prints inspired by Lost which the US has gone crazy for

An eye for an eye : And we both go blind
(I am going to start to write this but re-edit later)
A convicted murderer in the US state of Utah has chosen to be executed by firing squad.
When given a choice between lethal injection or being shot, Ronnie Lee Gardner told the judge: "I would like the firing squad, please." READ MORE HERE http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8641280.stm
So Ronnie killed an innocent man in a bank robbery and then in an escape bid killed a police man and lawyer. Horrific. I have no issue that he should spend the rest of his life in prison. The system works, he got a fair trial. Case closed, but in Utah there is the death penalty and the prisoner has a choice between Injection or firing squad. A choice!!!! Just answering the question How would you like to be exacuted ? With anything other then - i DON'T WANT TO BE KILLED
Is everyone in Utah mental
This form of justice is barbaric to say 5 of his peers should stand in front of him with guns and shot to kill makes no sense. How is murder the solution
We cannot allow this to go ahead. . I
This is the best reason in the world to join Amnesty International

"Julia doesn't do tongue", anewspace
Now
I know that a lot of ladies detest this time of year and all the slush that it entails and the last thing they want to do is go out and buy themselves a new dress…but how about a shiny new piece of art?
Possibly the coolest shop in our capital, anewspace (on Chatham Street in Dublin 2) currently has an art show on in store called 'julia doesn't do tongue'. The show is a sort of exploration into the painful and sometimes dark nature of love and features some of Ireland's most promising young artists such as Aine Macken and my favourite, Loki. If you want to buy something that is totally unique and won't depreciate with time, this art is the way to go, but hurry the show only runs until Valentine's Day.
That was so nice to read
Just in
Loads of books by Keith Harring, Faile, & Nick Knight and Huge pencil sharpeners

Sat 13th Feb
This was just weird
We has a visit from a lovely woman buying paint during the week. She wanted to paint a wall in "Urban Sprawl-street piecs" but for it to be organic. We helped her out with some paint. But alsas seh called to say it wasn't working and could we help.
I had no idea how - she didn't want a piece and it not really our thing. Antway she was nice. So it was a case of who here right now. So AN?.Canvaz, Mo and I wandered down to what we thought was the alley behind clearys. Thinking we'd slap some bits we had here up and mess.
How wrong were we - It was the clearys window, the film was the new Steven Soderbergh movie, Knock Out. Its amazing when you pull out a can, the whole world wants a chat. We had the security from clearys, cops, french kids, irish kids, film guys, taxi drivers. And everyone starts talking and discussing how you can or can't do this. Remember we are outside a huge departement store . No one at any point tells us to stop just that we have 15 mins.
Anyway heres the mess

And yes those are AN? "Hitch" pieces and Canvaz "Dorthey"
Thur 11th
Alexander McQueen : So sad to hear today about the death of Alexander McQueen, He was like the Bjork of fashion. A true original. Pushing so close to the edge. Dipping clothes in paint as the ran a cat walk or hidding messages to Prince Charles in the suits in lined while training. He seemed like a really cool guy who was doing something worth while in a silly fashion world.
Rest well
Wed 10 Feb

So poor George Lee quit politics as he feels inadequet. He felt that despite his best effort he had no input. Which begs the question is : do any of our local politicians have any effect. Is party politics the only way. This is all very depressing.
George your a coward. And your lack of real ambition for change is an embarassement. He could have gone independent. Told people the political parties are to set in they're ways. That Enda Kenny and Brian Cowen are politicians who inherited their seats and have no real ideas of there own. Get over yourself. Change things on a local level for the people who voted you in and lead. Show what can be achieved.
You are just lazy. Luck for George, Charlie Bird, (RTEs Washington reporter has returned home and George can step into this role. He is on a years leave, so win, win
The more and more I read about politics I don't really see anything but firemen. Putting out fires adn not really doing anything to keep things going. Its up to you so to make a difference.

A few people have asked us about our top ten songs of the year. These aren't in order and in fact some of these came out a long time ago but we rediscovered them this year.
We've included Videos where we can enjoy or hate our taste. These are in no order.
Gunman
Them Crooked Vulture
David Grohl is a hero of mine. I love how he's consistantly lived by the idea of 'Wouldn't it be cool if................' and most of the time hes right
Hallowed Earth
Thom Yorke
I love everything
Tricky - Black Steel
This is still the best Tricky track. The album Maxinquaye was re released this year and sounds amazingly fresh still
REM : Munich (Editors Cover on Live Lounge)
M.I.A
Paper Planes
With the Slumdog Millionaire Soundtrack and Pineapple Express. This song was everywhere. Straight to Hell by the Clash is the one of my favourite songs and it was cool it was transformed into something else
Maps
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Rediscovered and loved forever
Womanizer
Lilly Allen
I am going to be slagged about this and it was a throw up between Its not fair and this.Love it but couldn't find the Glasto version
I know
Jay-z
Love him or hate him Jay-z is slowly taking over the world here's my current favourite track
Special mention
I saw the U2 show in Dublin this year and I was blown away by three quarthers of the show. I was a brave new show that show a band playing together well and even thought they seemed to have the biggest stage in the world they seem to give a great sense of intimacy.
Here them with Jay-z in Germany for MTV
24th December
Anewspace love you and xmas toooo
Thank you for making the first month so great. We love you all. Everyone we've meet and all our old supporters who've come back to support us. Thanks.
In particular we need to make very special shout outs to
Des
A rock of a man whos' patience and generousity of spirit has been invaluable.
Eimer
The girl with the most amazing legs in Dublin. She has a knack of arriving at just the right time.
Fergus.
The answer has never been No, just thats very optimistic. He has never let me down and I hope one day I can repay him in full.
Ian & Emma.
My 2 best friends. The are usually the ones to pick me up and dust me off. Drive the get away car or build an Ikea unit. The other stuff they've done would shock and amaze but their profession status in the community could be effected and I only want the best for them.
Tom & Margo, Mr & Mrs Lynn to you.
I am one of those children that I can't say has been the easiest to have. But never for one moment have I doubt their love. They are my greatest inspiration and the back bone of everything that happens in Anewspace from day one.
Sophie & Kate
Trust me. I am difficult. No fussy. Difficult. They make it all happen everyday.
The Store
Its been an amazing month. The store is till there and will be for a long time to come so if you haven't visit come in and say hello. Its at 6 Chatham Street, Dublin 2. Next door to Muji and the Steps of Rome. Across from the Great Outdoors.
Just in Case your still stuck for present
Concentrate on your Mother and Partner. Everyone else is secondary in your life. If you don't believe us check your phone bill.
A voucher is not a gift. Dare to go out in a blaze of glory. The worst thing you buy will often be more remembered then the best present ever.
Making a gift, even a cd or cake is so much cooler then anything you can find in the shops.
If you are ringing work more then partner, family, friends. Pick up phone, insert into micro wave. Bring timer to 3min. No idea what will happen next. But the ashtray/ desk tidy you just made will be loved by your family as a symbol that your going to try harder.
Call into us - were open till 3 on X-mas eve. We'll try help. We might even make something with you.
Also
Prefab, Mark B, Daniel Danger and a late Marc by Marc Jacobs delivery is expected in Xmas week

Vintage Lines
Everyone seems to love the vintage cameras and they've been a huge success. It kinda make the look of digital camera boring. So the range is being slowly expanded.
A couple of years ago a close friend of our was running a store in Limerick it was a collaboration with Mira Mira in Sandymount Green. (A really great shop. (Call in a say hello to Bee, Joan and Sam) They sell amazing stuff.)
Anyway, one night Liz got into a spot of bother with a drunk. She got the guy out of the store. But to be honest it was very scary. So to save Liz, and find a new kinda of defensive device. We looked to the works of Bugs Bunny.
Noise is an amazing sensation. It can bring a ray of light to a grim day or shatter a peaceful view. With this in mind (& the works of Chuck Jones/Bugs Bunny) we sent Liz the old : One. Two.
A slide trombone with a boxing glove attached.
The idea being that the musical attack or skreetch (unfortunately Liz did not take to the instrument with the Jazz genius, we had hoped she had) would awake the attacker from his attack. Realising the error of their ways. And realising the error of their ways, the robber would hopefully apologise leaving to continue his life in a positive manner.
However if this was not the case - the boxing glove attached to the slide would inflict a heavy slugger blow allowing Liz to escape. Thankful this security system went untested but it does have pride of place in Liz's front room.
That is a true story. So from January you'll see various Trumpets & Trombones etc in the shop for the protection of the world and because they look really cool.

Here's a message from Will St Leger -
Bluetooth Fairy is my brand new solo show. It's a virtual download show, where no work will be displayed on the walls, instead members of the audience will receive the digital files via Bluetooth on their mobile phones. Once someone had received a piece of work they will be able to send the artwork via Bluetooth to high quality Canon printers at the show.
There will be 10 new pieces of work, some unreleased recent work, some unseen secret pieces. Only 10 people at the show will be selected at random to receive the work and they must choose to share the work with everyone else via Bluetooth or keep it completely to themselves. Either way the the digital files are released with a Creative Commons license, which allows the receiver to distribute, share, remix and reprint the work for non-commercial purposes.
I want the participants in the show to take the work away to share and reproduce it as a gift for their friends. There's a maximum of 75 tickets per show and it will run 11, 12, 13th November at Filmbase in Dublin. Tickets go on sale at All City Records, Crow Street, Temple Bar on Tuesday 27th October.
Before you buy a ticket please check that you have (1). A Bluetooth enabled picture phone* (2). Enough memory space to receive digital files. Read more about receiving and sending files from your mobile phone here. See you at the show

Well its an up hill battle but its getting clearer and clearer. Hopefully we will open the new store on the 19th of November.

Movember
Movember (the month formerly known as November) is a moustache growing charity event held during November each year that raises funds and awareness for mens health. I always think of cancer regarding this subject but thats really only the tip of the ice berg.

Adventures in the credit crunch
So we've spent the last 8 weeks looking for a new site and to be honest its been a nightmare. Here's the story so far.
Site 1
Site 1 was on Georges street it had laid empty for 5 months and when we found out the owner of the shop, he was open to suggestion. He had hoped to open a convience store but was delayed. A delay that would have worked till January in our favor. Unfortunately the site will be a SPAR and so after 3 weeks of back and forth it was a non runner
Site 2
South William Street. This was more suited to our needs the shop was the perfect size and the lease holder wanted out as soon as possible. After a few chats, our wonderful soilitor drafted contracts for a licence/sub-let.
This had to get approved by the management company and the owner of the building. We were at this point prepared to pay 6 months rent in advance plus rates and building insurance. But alas the landlords felt it better the building went on the open market and the store is currently having a relocation sale.
Site 3
Chatham Court. This site was the best thing we saw. Perfect location and huge. We would have only had it for December but we could have painted on the site and presented a massive X-mas show for December. The weird thing was everytime went to measure the site, get a vibe for the building - there were no lights and the front shutters would not rise. We were told the buildings electric was turned off as the site had been empty for 18months. As we exchaged details for contract, I felt the deal was in the bag and rang some of our artists and guests such as Maser who all wanted to show work. 24 hours later it was discovered the building needed complete re-wiring and that the power to its meters has been cut forever. The building was no longer available without months of work.
Site 4
Foot went through floor board.
We are not discussing sites 5 and 6 as it was just a disaster of sites which seemed abandoned by there former tenant. Its was very sad.
At the moment we are working on a four day show some where in Dublin for 4 days. My house is filled with cool pieces by Obey, Blek le Rat, Prefab, Banksy, Eelus, Dan Danger, and loads of new stuff. If you want a sneak peak click X-mas on the menu beside you
or just email us at : mail@anewspace.info
